Lap markers turn a long recording into a list of laps you can navigate and compare. Drop a marker at the start/finish line each time you cross it, and the Player works out each lap's time from the gaps between them.
Add a lap marker
When the playhead is at the start/finish line:
- Press Ctrl+L, or
- Use Markers → Insert Lap Marker, or
- Click the Add lap marker button in the advanced bar.
Drop one marker at the start of each lap. The first marker begins lap 1; each following marker closes the previous lap and starts the next.
Add a sector split
To break a lap into sectors, drop a sector split inside the lap:
- Press Ctrl+Shift+L, or
- Click the Add sector split button in the advanced bar.
See and navigate your markers
Press N to open the notes drawer and select the Video Markers tab. Every lap, sector split, and chapter is listed with its time:
- Click a marker to jump straight to it.
- Use the filter chips at the top to show only laps, only sectors, or only
notes.
Markers also appear as ticks on the timeline beneath the video.
Edit and remove markers
- Move a marker: select it in the list, position the playhead where it belongs,
then choose Markers → Move Selected Marker to Playhead (Ctrl+Shift+Enter). Useful for nudging a marker exactly onto the line.
- Delete a marker: select it and choose Markers → Delete Selected Marker.
- Undo / redo: Ctrl+Z undoes the last edit; Ctrl+Y (or
Ctrl+Shift+Z) redoes it.
Where markers are saved
Markers are saved to the video's .lapi sidecar file, so they stay with the video and are recognised by the full LapInsight app. See Opening Videos.
Note for paid users
If you're signed in, you can generate lap markers automatically from a telemetry file instead of placing them by hand. See Importing Lap Data. 🔒
