There are several ways to open footage in the Player. Use whichever fits your workflow.
File → Open Video…
Choose File → Open Video… and pick a file. Supported formats include .mp4, .mov, .mkv, and .avi.
Drag & drop
Drag a video file from a folder window and drop it anywhere on the Player. This is usually the fastest way to open a single clip.
Recent Videos
The Player remembers what you've opened. Choose File → Recent Videos to reopen something from the list without browsing for it again.
Favorites
Pin the videos you come back to often. Choose File → Add Current Video to Favorites…, give it a label, and it appears under File → Favorites for one-click reopening. See Favorites.
Set the Player as your default
If you'd like double-clicking a video to open it in the Player:
- Choose Help → Set as Default Player… for step-by-step instructions, or
- Open Windows Settings → Apps → Default apps, search for **LapInsight
Player**, and assign the video formats you want.
After that, double-clicking a .mp4 (or whichever formats you assigned) opens it straight in the Player.
What is a .lapi file?
When you add lap markers, chapters, or a description, the Player saves them to a small companion file next to your video called a .lapi sidecar — for example, Session_03.mp4 gets a Session_03.lapi alongside it.
- It's a plain, portable text (JSON) file. Your video is never modified.
- Keep the
.lapinext to its video when you copy or move files, and your markers
and notes come along.
- The same
.lapiis understood by the full LapInsight app, so work you do in the
Player carries over.
