The video description is a free-text note attached to a single video. Use it for whatever you'd want to remember about that footage — track conditions, setup changes, tyre pressures, what worked, what to try next time.
It's a free feature and works completely offline.
Add or edit a description
- Press N to open the notes drawer.
- Switch to the Video Description tab.
- Type. There's no Save button — your text is saved automatically a moment after
you stop typing.
The description is plain text (no formatting), which keeps it simple and portable.
Where it's saved, and where it goes
The description is stored in the video's .lapi sidecar file, right next to the video. That has a few useful consequences:
- It travels with the video. Copy or move the video together with its
.lapi,
and the description comes along.
- It's recognised by the full LapInsight app. If you later open or import the
same video there, the description appears on that video too.
- From the full app, that description can be carried into a video's details when you
publish it to the cloud — so a note you jot trackside in the Player can become the published video's description later. Publishing itself happens in the main LapInsight app, not in the Player.
In other words: the Player keeps the description local and offline, but it's the same field the rest of LapInsight uses — nothing is thrown away.
Description vs. Session Notes
- Video Description (this page) — plain text, per video, free, offline.
- Session Notes — a richer, formatted notes panel that requires signing in. See
