A Video Description is a short, plain-text description attached to a single video. It is shown to anyone you share that video with on LapInsight Cloud, and it travels with the video.
It is not the same as Session Notes — see Session Notes vs Video Description below.
Where To Find It
In Review Mode, open the notes panel and select the Video Description tab. (In the standalone player it is available too — the player has no session, so Video Description is the place for per-video text.)
Writing a Description
Click in the field and type. The description:
- is plain text only — no formatting, images, or timestamps;
- belongs to this one video, not the whole session;
- saves automatically as you type;
- is included when you publish the video to LapInsight Cloud, so it appears in the shared video viewer alongside lap, note, and chapter markers.
Tip: Keep it short — a one-line summary of the video ("Onboard, wet session, focus on Turn 1 braking") is ideal.
Session Notes vs Video Description
These are two different things. Use the one that matches what you want:
| Session Notes | Video Description | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | The whole session | One video |
| Format | Rich text — formatting, images, video timestamps, per-driver tabs | Plain text only |
| Audience | You (private to your app) | Anyone you share the video with |
| Shows in | The desktop app, and Session Reports | The LapInsight Cloud video viewer / share links |
In short: Session Notes is your private coaching notebook for the session; Video Description is a public, plain-text caption for one video.
Reusing Session Notes Text
If you want to base a video's description on something you already wrote in Session Notes, copy the text from Session Notes and paste it into the Video Description field. Note that Video Description is plain text, so any formatting, images, or timestamps from Session Notes will not carry over — only the text.
