Searching Documents

Find content across all your stored documents with full-text search.

Full-text search finds content across all your stored documents in seconds.

Basic Search

  1. In the Documents Center, click the search bar at the top and type your query.
  2. Results appear immediately, ranked by relevance.
  3. Click a result to open the document at the matching page or section.

Search Scope

The search bar searches within the currently active scope (session, day, event, or global). To search all documents, select Global scope first.

OCR for Scanned PDFs

Scanned documents that contain only images (no text layer) cannot be searched by default. Enable OCR to make them searchable:

  1. Go to File → Settings → Documents.
  2. Enable OCR and confirm Tesseract is installed (see note below).
  3. Right-click a scanned PDF → Run OCR.
  4. After processing, the document becomes searchable.

Note: OCR requires Tesseract to be installed separately. On Windows, download the Tesseract installer from the official GitHub releases page. On macOS, install via Homebrew: brew install tesseract.

Tip: OCR is run once per document and the text layer is cached — you only pay the processing cost on the first scan.
