Compress videos to reduce file size before uploading to the cloud or sharing, without losing your originals.
When To Compress
- Uploading to LapInsight Cloud, YouTube, or Vimeo — compressed files upload faster.
- Sending footage to a driver on a limited connection.
- Archiving older days where storage is tight.
How To Compress
- In the Video List, right-click a video (or select multiple) and choose Compress Videos, or go to Developer → Compression → Compress Active Day Videos.
- Select the compression profile:
- Web — good quality at reduced bitrate. Recommended for publishing. - Share — smaller file, suitable for quick sharing but not archival. - Archive — high quality, smaller than original. For long-term storage.
- Click Start. A progress dialog shows each file's status.
Profiles
Profiles are configured in Settings → Video → Compression Profiles. Each profile specifies the codec, bitrate, resolution cap, and audio settings.
Originals Are Kept
Compression always creates a new file alongside the original. The original is never overwritten. You can manage compressed versions from Developer → Compression → Manage Compressed Videos.
Replacing Originals
Once you've confirmed a compressed version is acceptable, you can delete the original from the Manage Compressed Videos dialog to free up space.
Tip: Compress the video *before* publishing to get the fastest upload time. LapInsight Cloud accepts compressed files.
